Bluefish Surprise Patriots; Win Third Straight

Greenberg and Offense Ignites Against Somerset

(Bridgewater, N.J. – July 30, 2010) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (12-9, 48-43) came back from a four-run deficit to defeat the Somerset Patriots (8-14, 44-48) in ten innings by a score of eight-to-seven. The Bluefish are three-and-two on the current eight-game road trip.

Miguel Saladin (1-0) earned the victory out of the bullpen as he tossed an-inning-and-two-thirds of scoreless baseball while Ben Grezlovski (5-3) took the loss in allowing an earned run on two base hits and a walk in the final frame. Jorge Julio notched his 18th save of the season. The Bluefish closer loaded the bases in the tenth after a hit and two walks; however, with one away, Noah Hall hit into a game-ending double play.

Bridgeport trailed by a run heading into the ninth inning before reliever Andrew Dobies surrendered the tying run in the ninth. Tike Redman led off with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Adam Greenberg. After a second out had been recorded, Josh Phelps picked up his second RBI of the night with a flare to rightcenter. The Bluefish knotted the score at seven.

In the tenth, Luis Rodriguez singled to right and was pushed to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Chaves. After Redman was retired, Greenberg served a single to right which plated Rodriguez for the final run of the contest.

Neither starting pitcher was involved in the decision.

Luis Lopez collected a three-run shot to tie the game in the sixth. His fourth homer of the year allowed Bridgeport to climb back into the contest after being down five-to-one.

In all, six Bluefish batters collected multiple hit nights led by Daniel Putnam’s three-four-four effort. The outfielder also earned a walk and a run scored. Steve Moss produced his twelfth homer of the season to tie the game in the seventh. Moss, Greenberg, Joe Jiannetti, and Luis Rodriguez picked up two hits for the winning side.

On the losing side, Joe Burke picked up five hits in six plate appearances with three RBI. Tim Raines Junior earned his sixth jack of the season by hitting a shot down the rightfield line. Raines, Wayne Lydon and Pete LaForest also earned two hits on Friday. Raines came around three times and Lydon twice.
