Bridgeport Plays Final Game At Harbor Yard

Bluefish Fans Celebrate 20 Years Of Atlantic League Baseball In The Park City

 

(Bridgeport, CT– September 17, 2017) – The Somerset Patriots (32-37, 74-65) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (35-35, 76-64) 9-5 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of a three-game series in what was the final contest ever played in the 20 year history of Atlantic League Baseball in Bridgeport.

Bridgeport starting pitcher Manny Parra registered a no-decision in the ballgame, allowing just one run on six hits in five innings pitched, striking out three. Somerset starting pitcher Patrick Johnson (2-2) picked up the victory, giving up one run on four hits (one home run) in five innings on the mound, striking out five.

Bridgeport took an early 1-0 lead against Johnson in the home half of the first inning when Jose Cuevas launched a solo home run to left with one man down, his seventh roundtripper of the campaign. Somerset evened the game at one in the top of the fourth versus Parra on a run-scoring single off the bat of Joe Maloney, plating Justin Trapp who reached with a base knock of his own earlier in the frame. The Patriots went ahead for good in the top of the sixth as they batted around and scored four runs on five hits off losing pitcher Ross Seaton (2-4) to jump ahead 5-1, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Yovan Gonzalez and a pair of RBI singles by Mark Minicozzi and D’Vontrey Richardson. The visitors broke the game open in the top of the ninth with four insurance runs to widen the gap to 9-1 on an RBI double produced by Olmo Rosario, a run-scoring base hit from Kyle Roller, and a two-run single by Richardson. The Bluefish scored the final run ever in their home ballpark when Jose Cuevas crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Jonathan Galvez, his team-leading 77th run batted in of the season which gave the game its final score of 9-2. Cuevas and Tyler Caserta led the way for Bridgeport with a pair of hits each.
