Alexis Gomez inks with Bridgeport
(Bridgeport, Conn. – Feb. 12, 2013) – The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced their first addition of the 2013 season, signing outfielder Alexis Gomez. Gomez joins the Bluefish for his first season in the Atlantic League and 13th of professional baseball.
“The Bluefish are proud to welcome Alexis as the first signing of 2013,” says Bluefish general manager Ken Shepard. “We are looking forward to the upcoming season and filling out our roster in the weeks to come.”
The former Major Leaguer last played professionally in the Mexican League from 2010-11. In 2010 with Laguna, he batted .352 with 16 home runs, 82 RBI, 77 runs scored, and 37 stolen bases over the course of 101 games.
The 32-year-old has spent four seasons in the Major Leagues, with his big league debut coming in 2004 as a member of the Kansas City Royals. He would again appear in a Royals uniform in 2006 before heading over to the Detroit Tigers, where he spent the following two years. In 89 career Major League games, the Dominican-native owns a .259 batting average.
Alexis began his professional career in 1999 with the Royals organization and participated in the MLB Futures Game that season. He has also spent time with the Colorado Rockies and Miami Marlins organizations. Over the course of 1,096 career minor league contests, the outfielder has batted .288 with 95 home runs, 213 doubles, 58 triples, 544 RBI, 614 runs scored, and 194 stolen bases.
