Jaye Chapman signed by Brewers

(Bridgeport, Conn. – Nov. 17, 2014)
– Former Bridgeport Bluefish pitcher Jaye Chapman has been signed to a minor league contract this offseason by the Milwaukee Brewers.

“It’s great to see Jaye receive this opportunity,” says Bluefish general manager Jamie Toole. “He worked hard and was one of our top relievers this past season. We wish him the best of luck.”

Chapman made his Atlantic League debut with the Bluefish in 2014. In 50 appearances out of the bullpen, he collected a 2-3 record with 3.86 ERA and 58 strikeouts over the course of 53.2 innings pitched.

The 27-year-old began his professional career in 2006 with the rookie league Danville Braves of the Appalachian League after being drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 16
th round of the MLB Amateur Draft. He was traded in 2012 from the Atlanta Braves organization along with Arodys Vizcaino to the Chicago Cubs for Major League veterans Reed Johnson and Paul Maholm. Chapman ended that season with the Cubs and in his only Major League stint; he appeared in 14 games (all in relief) and had a 3.75 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 12 innings. In 306 minor league games (eight starts), the right-hander has a 19-27 record with a 4.17 ERA, 28 saves and 469 strikeouts in 442.1 innings.

Chapman is the seventh member of the Bluefish to sign a contract or have a contract purchased by an affiliated organization in 2014.

The Bridgeport Bluefish are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. For further information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583) or visit BridgeportBluefish.com.
