Former Bluefish hurler inks a minor league contract

(Bridgeport, Conn. – Nov. 19, 2014)
– Former Bridgeport Bluefish pitcher Tim Gustafson has been signed to a minor league contract this offseason by the Baltimore Orioles.

“We’re ecstatic to see Tim receive this opportunity,” says Bluefish general manager Jamie Toole. “He is the perfect example of a comeback story in the Atlantic League. We hope he has success with the Orioles organization.”

After years as a starting pitcher, Gustafson converted himself into a reliever this past season and made his Atlantic League debut with the Bluefish after attending an open tryout in early April. He went from Spring Training invitee to Bluefish closer over the course of the season. In 57 appearances out of the bullpen, he collected a 2-5 record with a 2.39 ERA, six saves, 71 strikeouts, and a 1.08 WHIP over the course of 64.0 innings pitched.

The 29-year-old was a ninth round draft pick of the Atlanta Braves out of Georgia Tech University in 2006. During his minor league career, he also spent time with the Cincinnati Reds and Colorado Rockies organizations, reaching as high as the Triple-A level. In 236 career minor league games (119 starts), Gustafson owns a 36-55 record with a 4.80 ERA and 557 strikeouts in 762.1 innings of work.

Gustafson is the eighth member of the Bluefish to sign a contract or have a contract purchased by an affiliated organization in 2014.

The Bridgeport Bluefish are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. For further information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583) or visit BridgeportBluefish.com.
