'Fish Held To Three Hits In Loss

'Fish Lose Opener

Somerset continues to dominate at home, improving to 9-1 overall

(Bridgeport, Conn. – May 19, 2015) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (13-10) managed just three hits on the evening, matching their lowest total since opening night, and were defeated by the Somerset Patriots  (16-7) 7-3 at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey on a very humid Tuesday Night.

Bridgeport scored first to take the lead in the top half of the second inning as John Alonso scored on a passed ball to make it 1-0 in favor of the Bluefish. Somerset took the lead for good in the bottom half of the third inning on a two-out, three run home run that completely left the entire stadium off the bat of Thomas Neal, and just like that the Patriots led three to one and never looked back. Jovan Rosa, John Alonso, and Ryan Babineau had the lone hits on the night for the ‘Fish. Rosa extended his hitting streak to five games overall, but Nick Van Stratten was hitless in four at bats, snapping his on base streak at nineteen consecutive games.

Starting Pitcher Scott Maine (1-2) suffered the loss, pitching five innings, allowing eight hits and six runs, walking three and striking out five, while giving up a home run. Somerset Starter Matt Zielinski (1-0) earned the win, tossing six innings, surrendering three runs (two earned runs), walking two and striking out four.

The ‘Fish have a quick turnaround tomorrow when they once again take on the Patriots in a day/night doubleheader at TD Bank Ballpark. First pitch in the seven inning game number one is at 11:05 a.m., and the nine inning nightcap is scheduled to get underway at 7:05 p.m.

The ‘Fish return home to The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday, May 22nd when they host the Sugar Land Skeeters to open up a four game Memorial Day Weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
