Former Major League Infielder Josh Prince and left-handed pitcher Nick Hill make their way to Bridgeport
(Bridgeport, Conn. –June 27, 2015) –The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signings of infielder Josh Prince and left-handed pitcher Nick Hill.
“These players are going to be great additions to our team,”says Bluefish Manager Ricky VanAsselberg. “Josh has incredible speed and it’s always good to have a lefty like Nick in the bullpen.”
Josh comes to Bridgeport for his first season in the Atlantic League and seventh of professional baseball. He began the 2015 season with Double-A Erie of the Eastern League (Detroit), where he appeared in 40 games and collected a .205 batting average. Last year, the former Major Leaguer played 111 games with Double-A Hutsville of the Southern League (Milwaukee), collecting a .246 batting average and 37 stolen bases. The 27-year-old made his professional debut after being selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the third round of the 2009 MLB draft from Tulane University. He spent six years within the Brewers organization, making a brief appearance in the big leagues in 2013 when he played in eight games. In 651 career minor league games, Prince owns a .247 batting average with 32 home runs, 213 RBI, 363 runs scored, and 217 stolen bases.
Nick comes to Bridgeport for his first season in the Atlantic League and eighth of professional baseball. He began the 2015 season with Double-A Reading of the Eastern League and Triple-A Lehigh Valley of the International League (Philadelphia), where he made a total of 14 mound appearances. Last year, the left-hander split time with the Arizona League Mariners, Double-A Jackson of the Southern League, and Triple-A Tacoma of the Pacific Coast League (Seattle). He appeared in 31 total games, collecting 34 strikeouts in 32.1 innings of work. The 30-year-old made his professional debut after being selected by the Seattle Mariners in the seventh round of the 2007 MLB draft out of the United States Military Academy. He spent seven seasons within the Mariners organization, reaching the Triple-A level twice in 2013 and 2014. In 217 career minor league games, Hill owns a 3.79 ERA with 356 strikeouts in 385.0 innings of work.
In corresponding roster moves, the Bluefish have traded outfielder Jake Luce to the Lancaster Barnstormers (Atlantic League) for future considerations, infielder Frazier Hall to Fargo Moorhead (American Association) for a player to be named later, and catcher Ryan Babineau to Winnipeg (American Association) for a player to be named later.
