Revolution Defeat Bluefish With 17 Hits

Milestone Hit For Bryant Nelson In Ninth Inning

(Bridgeport, CT– August 14, 2015) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (19-15, 45-59) were defeated by the York Revolution (19-15, 43-61) 13-5 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday night. York has now won the first two of the four-game series, having outscored Bridgeport 18-7 in the process.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Cody Scarpetta (1-3) suffered the loss, lasting just four innings, giving up seven runs (six earned runs) on seven hits, walking four and striking out six, while throwing three wild pitches and surrendering one home run. York Starting Pitcher Logan Williamson (6-9) earned the victory, tossing six and one-third innings, allowing four runs (three earned runs) on six hits, walking three, striking out four, throwing a wild pitching and hitting a batter.

York got on the board quickly off Scarpetta, scoring three runs in the top half of the first inning. Wilson Valdez drove home Jose Constanza with the game’s first run, after Costanza reached on a two-base error to kick off the evening, and two batters into the game the Revolution led 1-0. Andres Perez brought in Valdez with an RBI single, while Bryan Pounds completed the rally with a sacrifice fly, scoring Eric Patterson. Bridgeport cut to the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the second off Williamson on an RBI triple off the bat of Jobduan Morales, plating Wilson Batista who led off the frame with a double. The three-base hit for the switch-hitting All-Star catcher was his first of the 2015 campaign.

Trailing 4-1, the ‘Fish shaved the Revoltion lead to a single run at 4-3 with two runs in their half of the third inning, sending eight batters to the plate again off Williamson. Batista had his second hit in as many at bats with a run-scoring base knock, bringing in Bryan Sabatella who reached on an infield single. Morales drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Bryant Nelson who had also drawn a free pass. The Revolution responded in the top of the fourth inning with three more insurance runs and a 7-3 cushion, one they would never relinquish. The big blow was a three-run home run by Perez, who finished the game with three hits overall, two for extra-bases (a double and a home run) and six runs batted in. The Freedom Division All-Star now has a home run, two doubles, and nine runs driven home in the series. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Bryant Nelson collected his 934th career hit in the Atlantic League, putting him in sole possession of third place all-time in league history, trailing only Jeff Nettles and Ray Navarrete. The 13 year veteran compiled those hits as a member of the Bluefish, Lancaster Barnstormers, Long Island Ducks, Camden Riversharks, and York Revolution. Batista and Ethan Chapman led the way for Bridgeport with a pair of hits each.

Bridgeport continues their series with the York Revolution at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Saturday, August 15th. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., followed by a post-game 3D Fireworks show.
