York Defeats Bridgeport To Take Series

Sabatella Extends On-Base Streak

(Bridgeport, CT– August 16, 2015) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (20-16, 46-60) were defeated by the York Revolution (20-16, 44-62) 7-3 in the finale of a four-game series at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sunday night. Despite the setback, the ‘Fish remain in a first place tie with the Somerset Patriots in the Second Half of the Liberty Division Standings.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Ray Hanson (0-2) suffered the loss, lasting five innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits, walking six, and striking out three, throwing a wild pitch and surrendering one home run. York Starting Pitcher Rommie Lewis (9-8) earned the win, tossing five innings, giving up two runs (one earned run) on three hits, walking three, striking out seven, and allowing one wild pitch.

Bridgeport took the early 1-0 lead off Lewis in the bottom half of the first inning on a two-out, run-scoring single by John Alonso, plating Welington Dotel with the game’s first run after Dotel reached on an error earlier in the frame and stole his league-leading 32nd base of the season. York answered right back in the next half inning off Hanson on an opposite-field  RBI single by Salvador Paniagua, bringing home Andres Perez with the tying-run after he drew a leadoff walk.

The contest remained deadlocked at one until the top of the fourth inning, and that was when the Revolution broke the game open batting around and scoring six runs to take 7-1 lead, one they would never relinquish. The decisive blows in the rally were a two RBI double by Wilson Valdez and a two-out, two-run home run by Perez, all coming against Hanson. Perez finished a monster series against the Bluefish with two doubles, two home runs, and 11 runs batted in, showing the Bridgeport faithful why he was worthy of  his Freedom Division All-Star selection in the Midsummer Classic at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard last month. Luis Rodriguez would drive home Alonso on a groundout in the last half of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 7-3, but that was as close as the ‘Fish would get as the visitors left the Constitution State taking three of four to win the series. All-Star Bryan Sabatella drew a walk in the fifth inning, extending his on-base streak to nine consecutive games as a member of the Bluefish. Wilson Batista led the way for Bridgeport with three hits, including a double, and was 10-18 against the York overall.

The Bluefish now head to the Lone-Star State of Texas to take on the Sugar Land Skeeters in a seven-game series beginning on Monday night. Bridgeport returns to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday, August 24th when they welcome in their cross-sound rival Long Island Ducks as the 2015 Ferry Cup Series continues. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Bluefish are showing their appreciation for Late Show host David Letterman. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a David Letterman Paper Face Fan.
