Bluefish Suffer Fourth Straight Loss

Riordan Tosses Second Consecutive Complete Game

(York, PA– September 5, 2015) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (27-28, 53-72) were defeated by the York Revolution (30-24, 54-70) 2-1 at Santander Stadium on Saturday night and now have now dropped the first two of the four game set in the Keystone State. Bridgeport has now lost four consecutive games overall and fall to 1-4 on their current seven game road trip.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Cory Riordan (5-4) suffered the complete game loss, going eight innings, allowing two runs on six hits, walking one while striking out 11 and surrendering two home runs. The 11 punchouts tied a season-high for the right hander, matching his efforts also against York in a 9-1 victory at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on July 4th. The Killingworth, Connecticut native went the distance in a ballgame for the second straight outing. York Starting Pitcher Matt Neil registered a no-decision, lasting seven innings, allowing one run on two hits, walking three and striking out six. Beau Vaughn (3-1) retired all three batters he faced out of the bullpen, striking out two in the process en route to the victory. All-Star Stephen Penney pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his fifth save of the season.

Bridgeport took the early 1-0 lead off Neil in the top of the second inning on a run-scoring single to center field by Jeudy Valdez, plating CJ Retherford with the game’s first run after he opened up the frame with a walk. York answered right back in the home half of the second off Riordan on a game-tying, two out solo home run off the bat of Telvin Nash, his sixth roundtripper of the season and second in as many nights against the ‘Fish.

The score remained all square at one until the bottom half of the eighth inning, when the Revolution took the lead for good. With one man out and the bases empty, Eric Patterson blasted what turned out to be the eventual game-winning solo home run off Riordan to give the home team a narrow 2-1 edge. Patterson’s big fly was the second of the night for York and the sixth in the first two games of the series, following up last night’s performance when they launched four big flies off Bluefish pitchers, a season-high. Penney came on looking to send the Revolution fans home with smiles on their faces for the second straight as both ballclubs fight for their playoff lives. With one out and nobody on, Welington Dotel reached on an error by Nash at first base, and the league-leader in stolen bases was on board representing the tying-run. Retherford then fouled out to Nash, and Andres Rodriguez struck out as York was able to breathe a sigh of relief and hang on for the one-run victory. The Bluefish had just two hits on the evening, with Andres Rodriguez and Valdez picking up a base knock each.

Bridgeport continues their series with the York Revolution on Sunday night. The Bluefish return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday, September 8th when they welcome in the Sugar Land Skeeters for a three-game midweek series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Come out to watch a Grandma Beauty Pageant in honor of Silver Sluggers Program.
