Bluefish right-handed pitcher Cory Riordan assigned to Triple-A Toledo

(Bridgeport, Conn. – December 11, 2015) – Bridgeport Bluefish team officials today announced that right-handed pitcher Cory Riordan has been signed by the Detroit Tigers organization.

“We are very excited to see Cory receive this opportunity,” says Paul Herrmann, Bluefish Senior Director of Baseball Operations and Public Relations. “He worked hard and was one of our most reliable starters this past season. We wish him the best of luck.”

Riordan made 18 appearances with the ‘Fish in 2015, including 17 starts, and finished with five wins, 82 strikeouts and a 3.61 ERA in 117.0 innings.

On July 10^th, Riordan had his contract purchased by the Lamigo Monkeys of the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan. While overseas, he made just four starts before returning to Bridgeport to finish the season.

He is currently playing for the Leones del Caracas of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League, where he has made 10 starts and collected four wins with a 4.40 ERA, striking out 27 batters in 47.0 innings.

The Connecticut native was drafted in the sixth round of the 2007 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies and spent seven years within the organization, reaching as high as the Triple-A level. Riordan owns a career 48-53 record with a 4.32 ERA and 811 strikeouts over the course of 1,014.2 innings in 206 minor league appearances (150 starts).
