Joe Klein Named 2016 Hot Stove Keynote Speaker

Atlantic League Executive Director and former Major League General Manager to speak at Bluefish Hot Stove Banquet on March 21

) – The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced that Joe Klein, the Executive Director of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, will be the keynote speaker at the 2016 Hot Stove Banquet on Monday, March 21st. The event will take place at Fairfield Theater Company – StageOne in Fairfield from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Klein currently serves as the Executive Director of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and has over 50 years of experience in professional baseball, both on the field and behind the scenes.

“We are excited to once again host this special event for 2016 as we usher in our 19
th season of Bluefish Baseball,” says Bluefish General Manager Jamie Toole. “This banquet will offer our fans a unique look into the baseball industry through Joe’s vast experiences and insights.”

Joe Klein entered into the baseball world as a minor league first baseman, playing for the Washington Senators farm system from 1962 through 1968. In 610 career minor league games, he has a batting average of .278 with 17 home runs, 190 runs batted in, 267 runs scored, and 41 stolen bases. After retiring as a player, he spent nine seasons as Manager for teams in the Washington Senators and Texas Rangers organizations.

Klein has served as the General Manager for three Major League teams, including the Texas Rangers (1982-1984), Cleveland Indians (1986-1987), and Detroit Tigers (1993-1995). He has also been a member of the Kansas City Royals’ front office staff, serving as Vice President of Player Personnel in 1990 and 1991 and Assistant General Manager in 1985, when the Royals won the World Series.

Joe Klein and the remaining guest panel, including Bluefish Manager Luis Rodriguez, as well as other speakers who will be announced at a later date, will take part in an interactive and candid panel discussion. Following the discussion, guests will be able to participate in a Q&A session with the panel members.
