Bluefish fall short to the Ducks

(Bridgeport, Conn. – April 15, 2016) – The Bridgeport Bluefish dropped their Spring Training home opener to the Long Island Ducks on Friday afternoon at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard by a score of 5-1. Starting pitcher Mike Antonini allowed no runs on two hits, and struck out one, in four innings of work. Bluefish pitcher Jake Thompson threw one inning, but suffered the loss, after allowing five runs (none earned) on two hits and walk, while striking out two.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the seventh inning when Ducks second baseman Blake Barber singled in Matt Wessinger to get Long Island on the board. Three batters later outfielder Delta Cleary Jr. belted a grand slam over the right field wall, putting the Ducks up 5-0. Bridgeport remained scoreless until the bottom of the ninth inning when Rossmel Perez ripped a single with two outs, driving in Wilkin Ramirez for the ‘Fish’s only run of the game.

Bridgeport is back in action Saturday, April 16^th when they face off against Long Island at Bethpage Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Bluefish return to The Harbor Yard for Spring Training tilt against new in-state rival New Britain on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
