Three More Hits For Welington Dotel
(Lancaster, PA– September 10, 2016) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (32-30, 62-70) were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers (26-35, 61-70) 5-4 at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Saturday night to even up the three game weekend series at a victory apiece. The loss drops Bridgeport to 4-2 on their current seven game, two-state road trip.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Ross Seaton registered a no-decision despite his second consecutive quality start, lasting six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out three while surrendering two home runs. Lancaster Starting Pitcher Connor Root also did not factor in the game’s final outcome, pitching just three and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs (three earned runs) on seven hits, walking three, striking out one and tossing a wild pitch. Pete Andrelczyk (9-2) earned the win in relief allowing just one hit in four batters faced. Sam Gervacio (1-3) was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in one inning of work, including the game-winning home run. Cory Burns pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen, striking out one in the process for his team-leading 27th save of the season.
Bridgeport took the early 1-0 lead off Root in the top of the second on an RBI single by Luis Rodriguez, plating Jose Cuevas with the game’s first run after he walked and advanced to second base on a balk. Lancaster took a 2-1 advantage against Seaton on a two run home run to left by Sean Halton. The Bluefish went back on top 3-2 as Luis Hernandez came down the line from third base to tie it after Welington Dotel stole second base and the ball got away on a throwing error by catcher Mike McDade. Dotel’s speed was on display once again when he gave the visitors a one-run cushion scoring all the way from second base on a wild pitch from Root. K.C Hobson would get Lancaster even with a solo home run to right centerfield as the back and forth affair continued.
The ‘Fish went back top in the fourth on an RBI double by Jonathan Galvez, allowing Cuevas to cross the plate after he led off the rally with a free pass. The Barnstormers would plate a pair of runs in the eighth against Gervacio to take the lead for good at 5-4. Halton evened the game at four with an RBI double, and Mike Jacobs followed with a go ahead solo home run as Lancaster came from behind for the win. Dotel led the way for Bridgeport with three hits. The Bluefish return home on Tuesday, September 13th to kick off their final regular season homestand when they welcome in the Somerset Patriots to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard for a day/night doubleheader.
