Endy Chavez Earns 2016 Atlantic League Batting Title

Outfielder Endy Chavez led the ALPB regular season with .345 batting average


(Bridgeport, Conn. – Sept. 19, 2016) – Bridgeport Bluefish outfielder and 13-year MLB vet Endy Chavez has been awarded the 2016 Atlantic League Batting Title. He finished the season with a .345 batting average, two home runs, 37 RBI and 55 runs scored in 95 games played.

Chavez came to Bridgeport for his first season in the Atlantic League and 19th of professional baseball. He last played in 2014 with the Seattle Mariners and their Triple-A affiliate, Tacoma of the Pacific Coast League. That year in the MLB, the outfielder played in 80 games and collected a .276 batting average with two home runs, 23 RBI, and 22 runs scored.

Endy made his professional debut in 1997 after being signed by the New York Mets as an undrafted free agent. During his 13 years in the big leagues, he played for the Kansas City Royals (’01), Montreal Expos (’02-‘04), Washington Nationals (’05), Philadelphia Phillies (’05), New York Mets (’06-’08), Seattle Mariners (’09, ’13-’14), Texas Rangers (’11), and Baltimore Orioles (’12). In 1,151 Major League games, he collected a .270 batting average with 30 home runs, 266 RBI, 285 runs scored, and 106 stolen bases. He is best known for his spectacular over-the-wall catch during Game 7 of the 2006 National League Championship Series while he was with the Mets.
