Gil And Myers Extend Hitting And On-Base Streaks Respectively
(Bridgeport, CT– June 3, 2017) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (24-20) were defeated by the Long Island Ducks (21-22) 10-1 at The Ballpark at Harbor on Saturday evening as Long Island has now taken two of the first three-games in the four game weekend series in the Nutmeg State. The Ducks collect 16 hits in the victory, the most allowed by Bridgeport’s pitching staff in a single game on the 2017 campaign.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo (3-4) was tagged with the loss, surrendering eight runs on ten hits in just four and two-thirds innings pitched, striking out three. The eight runs allowed by the Albaladejo matches his season-high, also giving up eight runs in a 9-1 defeat at the hands of the Somerset Patriots in game two of a doubleheader back on May 10th at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, a game that lasted seven innings of play. Long Island pitcher John Brownell (4-0) registered the victory, giving up just one run in seven innings on the mound, striking out six as he notched his second win in as many games against the Bluefish in 2017, both coming in the Park City.
Long Island took a 1-0 lead against Albaladejo just three batters into the ballgame on a run-scoring groundout by Lew Ford that plated Anthony Vega with the game’s first run after Vega opened up the contest with a well struck double to right field on the first pitch of the night thrown by Albaladejo. The Ducks made it 2-0 in their favor in the top of the second on an RBI base knock by Delta Cleary, Jr. The visitors broke the game open in the middle innings, with three runs in the fourth and fifth, and a pair of runs in the sixth to take a commanding 10-0 advantage, sending seven batters to the plate in each of those three frames, collecting nine hits in the process. The Bluefish avoided the shutout in the home half of the sixth inning with their only run of the night when Jonathan Galvez drove home D’Arby Myers with an RBI single against Brownell. Galvez adds to his team-lead in runs batted in with 24.Jose Gil had a single in four at-bats in the loss, extending his hitting streak to six consecutive games, a season high and the longest active hit streak on the ballclub. Myers and Luis Hernandez led the way for the ‘Fish with a pair of hits each, with Myers extending his on-base streak to six straight games.
