(Bridgeport, CT– August 8, 2017) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (16-15, 57-44) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (20-11, 58-42) 17-5 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series in the Park City. The 17-run outburst along with 22 hits for the ‘Fish are both single-game season highs on the 2017 campaign.

Bridgeport starting pitcher Ross Seaton (1-0) notched his first victory of the season for the home team, allowing five runs on seven hits across six innings pitched, walking three and striking out four. Lancaster starting pitcher Joe Gardner (0-1) was tagged with the loss, surrendering nine runs on 12 hits in just four innings of work, walking six and striking out one while tossing two wild pitches.

The first of three big innings offensively for the Bluefish took place in the bottom half of the third versus Gardner, when Bridgeport sent ten batters to the plate against the right-hander, scoring five runs on seven hits, taking a 6-1 lead in the process, one they would never relinquish, highlighted by run scoring singles from Angelys Nina, Ozney Guillen, 2017 Liberty Division All-Star Luis Hernandez, and Sean Burroughs, along with an RBI double off the bat of Tony Abreu. Bridgeport sent eight to the plate in the home half of the fifth, extending their advantage to 10-3 on a two-run base knock from Hernandez, an RBI single by Welington Dotel, with Burroughs chipping in producing an RBI fielder’s choice. The ‘Fish were not finished there, as they batted around in the bottom of the eighth, plating five more runs for the game’s final score of 17-5 on a sacrifice fly by Dotel, an RBI base hit from Abreu, a run-scoring double by Burroughs, and finally a two-run triple from Jonathan Galvez, giving the slugger a team-best 54 runs driven home on the season after he plated four baserunners on the evening with a pair of extra-base hits. Seven of the nine batters in the starting lineup for the Bluefish had multi-hit performances, with Burroughs leading the way tallying his first four-hit game of the campaign.
