Galvez Extends On-Base Streak
(Bridgeport, CT– August 10, 2017) – The Sugar Land Skeeters (15-17, 45-57) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (17-17, 58-46) 4-2 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday afternoon in the opener of a four-game series in the Nutmeg State. The Bluefish are now 2-2 on their current seven-game homestand and fall to 32-21 overall in the Park City.
Bridgeport starting pitcher Reinier Roibal (1-2) was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs (two earned runs) on three hits across five innings pitched, walking three and striking out five while tossing a wild pitch, hitting a batter, and committing a pair very crucial balks. Sugar Land starting pitcher Brett Marshall (7-7) collected the win, giving up two runs (one earned run) on seven hits in seven innings of work, walking four and striking out one. Mark Haynes tossed a clean inning of relief in the bottom half of the ninth inning to record his ninth save of the campaign.
Bridgeport took the early 2-0 lead versus Marshall in the home half of the second on a two-out, two-run single off the bat of Ozney Guillen that plated Jonathan Galvez who walked with one down and Andrew Lambo who followed the free pass of Galvez with an opposite-field base knock to left. The walk issued to Galvez extended his on-base streak to a season-high 20 consecutive games. Sugar Land answered right back in the top of the third in what turned out to be a wild and crazy half-inning. Roibal began the frame striking out Caleb Ramsey swinging, but Ramsey hustled to first base and arrived in safely on a dropped third strike that rolled to the backstop. Ramsey later advanced to second on a balk. With one away, Josh Prince hit a sacrifice bunt back to Roibal, who then threw it over the head of Sean Burroughs at first base, enabling Ramsey to score and cut the deficit in half at 2-1, with Prince advancing to second. After Prince stole third, he trotted down the line with the tying-run on the second balk of the inning surrendered by Roibal, and without registering a hit, the visitors tied the contest at two. The Skeeters went ahead 3-2 in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded from Anthony Giansanti. Sugar Land added an insurance run in the top of the eighth on an RBI double by Dickie Thon, which gave the game its final score of 4-2.
