Bluefish Take Rubber Game From Bees

Galvez Goes Yard And Drives Home Four En Route To The Victory

(Bridgeport, CT– August 24, 2017) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (23-24, 64-53) defeated the New Britain Bees (19-26, 45-70) 6-5 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday night to take the rubber game of the three game midweek series in the Park City. The Bluefish close out the regular season schedule against their in-state rivals winning 14 of 20 games played, and now begin a seven-game road trip Friday evening against the 2017 First Half Liberty Division Champion Somerset Patriots at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater Township, New Jersey.

Bridgeport starting pitcher Charles Brewer registered a no-decision in the ballgame, allowing three runs on six hits across five innings pitched, walking and striking out four. New Britain starting pitcher Greg Nappo also did not factor in the game’s final outcome, surrendering five runs on ten hits (one home run) in six innings of work, walking three and striking out two. Elvin Ramirez (4-2) picked up the win out of the Bluefish bullpen, while Nate Roe (5-5) was tagged with the loss for the Bees. Manny Delcarmen fired a scoreless inning of relief in the top half of the ninth for his fourth save of the season.

Leading 2-1 in the home half of the fifth, Jonathan Galvez gave the home team a 4-1 cushion with a two-run home run to left field, his team-leading 16th big fly of the campaign. After New Britain plated four unanswered runs in the top of the sixth to take their second lead of the evening at 5-4, the ‘Fish were in search of yet another comeback as the fans got up and stretched out their arms and legs in the bottom of the seventh, and they were not disappointed. With runners at first and second and nobody out, Galvez drove home Luis Hernandez with the tying-run as he belted an RBI double into the gap in left centerfield, his fourth run batted in on the night. With one man down and the infield in, Gustavo Molina brought in Galvez with a sacrifice fly to give the game its final score of 6-5 as Bridgeport tallied their 22nd come-from behind win of the year. In his first game back since August 4th at Bethpage Ballpark versus the Long Island Ducks, 2017 Liberty Division All-Star D’Arby Myers led the way for the Bluefish with three hits, giving him a team-best 34 multi-hit games overall, while Bridgeport finished the night with 12 hits in total, marking the 66th time in 117 games played in which they have notched ten or more hits in a single contest.
