First Quality Start For Seaton Despite The Loss
(Bridgewater, NJ– August 25, 2017) – The Somerset Patriots (21-26, 63-54) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (23-25, 64-54) 1-0 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening in the opener of a three game weekend series in the Garden State. Bridgeport is shutout by an opponent for the fifth time this season and second overall by way of the Somerset pitching staff.
Bridgeport starting pitcher Ross Seaton (1-2) was tagged with the loss, allowing just one run on nine hits in six innings pitched, walking two and striking out three. Despite suffering the defeat, the right hander did collect his first quality start of the campaign. Somerset starting pitcher Mike Antonini (2-1) picked up the win by tossing six scoreless innings on three hits surrendered, striking out nine while walking and hitting a batter. Ronnie Shaban walked the tightrope in the top half of the ninth inning but was able to close the game out for his 11th save of the year.
With the game scoreless in the home half of the sixth, Somerset was able to crack the scoreboard against Seaton with a one out rally. After Justin Pacchioli walked, he advanced to third on a hit and run single produced by Aharon Eggleston to put runners at the corners. Adam Donachie was next to the plate, and he brought home Pacchioli with a safety squeeze to the right side that was fielded by Seaton, who threw home to catcher Gustavo Molina, but the speed of Pacchioli was too much as he slid across the plate safely on what was ruled a sacrifice bunt and a fielder’s choice, with Donachie getting credit for a run batted in as the home team took a 1-0 lead. In the top of the ninth versus Shaban, the ‘Fish had runners at the corners with nobody out on a leadoff opposite field single to right by Welington Dotel and a hit and run base knock from Tony Areu. Shaban was able to settle down from that point, as he erased Gustavo Molina and Andrew Lambo on a pair of consecutive foul outs. Ozney Guillen followed with a walk to load the bases, but D’Arby Myers broke his bat on the first pitch fastball thrown by Shaban and bounced into a comebacker as the Patriots narrowly held on for the one-run victory. Myers and Abreu led the way for the Bluefish with two hits apiece.
